So this was a tough week for running, but before we get there...
I won the weight loss group for 6/15-7/15. Yeah, it was only 4 pounds, but it is on percentage lost and I won. Waiting for my payout check so I can get a new pair of running shoes :).
Back to running. It was hot this week. Yes, it's July and it's supposed to be hot. But it was hot. I ran the 5.88K loop on Tuesday faster than I have run it yet, despite the heat. Wednesday I punked out and ran on the treadmill at the Bike Hub Y, but I forgot how horribly it is to do 5 miles on a treadmill. Thursday I ran just over 5K with the downtown Runner's Forum Thirsty Thursday crew. Hot. Faster than I have run in a while because I felt like I was keeping people from beer and some people kept coming back for me. But hot. Friday I ran downtown by myself, right around 5K. Figured if I didn't run before I got to my car it wasn't going to happen. Really slow, but it was supposed to be an "easy" run.
Today's long run was cooler than the weekday evening runs, but WAY more humid. People keep promising this heat/humidity crap will pay off in November. It better. We did a Butler loop today - Monon to 52nd to Butler, through Holcomb Gardens to the Canal Tow Path. Stopped for water at Good Dog and Hinkle. Had some Gatorade at Holbomb Gardens. Stopped back at the deck for more water and Gatorade, then finished up my out/back on the Monon. It got pretty sunny and warm on the Tow Path. After the clouds rolled in it felt better, but I was done by then. 11K. Step back week. Thank goodness.
I'm a planner. And a dork. And I wrote a lot of Vision 2020 plans around 2000 so now that it is 2020 everything feels weird. Ok, that's out of my system. Let's talk about 2020. I've already done a self-assessment of last year and met with coach to plan 2020. Everything is focused on Ironman Wisconsin on September 13.The milestones have been set, but there will be some infill along the way. Milestone 1: Carmel Marathon - I did a spring marathon (also Carmel) in 2018 ahead of Louisville and it seemed like a good idea to do that again. So for the 10th Carmel Marathon I am running the full. Spring marathons feel undertrained compared to fall because the time between recovering from fall and getting ramped up to multiple 20 mile training runs is not there. I take the spring effort as a see what happens sort of race. Must finish to keep the streak alive, but I will see how everything else unfolds. Milestone 2: TourdeLou - not so much of a race as a supported event ride ...
