Such nice weather today. A little humid at the start but as the temperature went up we lost some of it. Was having a bit of a problem breathing when it was super humid.
Today was 10 miles - the Williams Creek loop plus a 2 mile out and back on the Monon. Pam Brewer was ahead of me for a while and then behind me, but then when I knew she was doing the Williams Creek loop too we settled in together. The loop is nice, but has some rolling hills so it is a tougher run than the Monon. This is good for me. We run from Broad Ripple to 86th Street on the Monon, then head west on 86th Street. A lot of the trees need to be trimmed because they overhang the sidewalk too much. Turn left at Pennsylvania and then the hills begin. One tough one that I didn't used to be able to run. I can run it now, but it really stresses my breathing. Takes a while to recover once the road flattens back out. Downhill is fun!
Probably didn't handle nutrition as well as I should have. Did water and 3 Gatorade blocks at 86th and the same at Arden. Started to feel it by the time I was back at the deck and still had two miles to run, but I powered through. Need to be more careful as we amp up the mileage.
Felt pretty good after. Went to Einstein and had chocolate milk, a banana, and some green tea with the Indy Runners crew then walked to the Broad Ripple Farmers Market with Kay Schuetter.
Some race reports are easier to write than others. Some take a while to process everything that happened. On September 26 th I set out to do my own full Ironman distance triathlon (2.4 miles swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run). When coach at I first started talking about it we talked about maybe as a one day effort (race format) or three days (like some of the virtual options have been). My last big training weekend (biking 100 on Saturday, running 20 on Sunday, and swimming 2.2 miles open water on Monday) confirmed that I needed to shoot for single day because I had come so close to the three day in training. So we were full steam ahead with the plan already in motion. I had planned routes, marked my bike course, secured volunteers for aid stations (amazing people all around), dropped off aid bags…finished training and tapered. Race morning Trena arrived at my house early and we headed over to Andy’s for the swim. Trena and Jen were doing safety kayaking for me. And...
