July will begin mt training to run the full Monumental Marathon. Short recap: DNF at mile 15 in 2009, didn't attempt a full marathon in 2010, full finish at San Diego Rock & Roll in 2011, injury in 2012. I will finish Monumental...I will...I promise.
Now that I have a full marathon finish some people aren't sure why I think I need to do Monumental at all, or why I am still anxious about being able to finish it. Both are easy. I like to finish things. That being said I don't know if I will ever attempt the Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon again even though it is my only HM DNF. But I digress. I am anxious because San Diego took me 7:09:25 to complete and the time limit for Monumental is 6:30:00.
I intentionally walked all of the San Diego race and I didn't have an excellent nutrition plan. This time I will run/walk and have a nutrition plan. I also know what to expect in the last 10K. I think this will help me finish within the time limit. I also have a coach this time so hopefully I will be better prepared than I was last time.
And so it begins...
I'm a planner. And a dork. And I wrote a lot of Vision 2020 plans around 2000 so now that it is 2020 everything feels weird. Ok, that's out of my system. Let's talk about 2020. I've already done a self-assessment of last year and met with coach to plan 2020. Everything is focused on Ironman Wisconsin on September 13.The milestones have been set, but there will be some infill along the way. Milestone 1: Carmel Marathon - I did a spring marathon (also Carmel) in 2018 ahead of Louisville and it seemed like a good idea to do that again. So for the 10th Carmel Marathon I am running the full. Spring marathons feel undertrained compared to fall because the time between recovering from fall and getting ramped up to multiple 20 mile training runs is not there. I take the spring effort as a see what happens sort of race. Must finish to keep the streak alive, but I will see how everything else unfolds. Milestone 2: TourdeLou - not so much of a race as a supported event ride ...
