A lot has happened...and I am tired...but it is 7 WEEKS from IRONMAN LOUISVILLE!!!
This may ramble a little and then will have a training log. I am processing that three years ago (when IMLOU was in August) Erika and I volunteered in T2 together and she told me she would be at the finish when I crossed...she will be with me in spirit, but I will miss a hug at the finish.
After the San Diego trip I returned to work at my old job for 3 days and then went to Louisville to do an Olympic distance triathlon for Ohio River swim practice. The river wasn't as hard as I thought it might be (though straight line was hard) even though it wasn't wetsuit legal. The ride course was flat and fast and I rode well...then it got hot on the run and kinda checked out. I still finished with a very small PR and 3rd Athena.
The next day I started my new job and I love it! The schedule has been a bit of an adjustment, but I am enjoying it.
After my first week I went back to Louisville for a course ride. I rode 116 miles (the full course plus some to/from the shop) and then ran two miles. All good. Average speed was 15 mph, which is good. I felt good. The next day I had a 20 mile run, but I also needed to serve at church so it was going to be in the afternoon. It was mercifully cool and I decided to run some newer trails in Hamilton County including Cool Creek, Natalie Wheeler, Midland Trace, and part of Hagan Burke (some of it is closed right now). I maintained 3:1 run/walk and it was my fastest 20 miler. Coach Matt and I talked about this being a big/scary sounding weekend when he posted it, but I approached it one thing at a time and had a solid weekend of training.
The second week of work was good and there was a significant decision made (that will make more sense in 18 months) so it was a bit stressful, but turned out very well. I was glad to not be traveling for work or fun since I have been pretty tired. I wasn't able to sleep Friday night despite being tired...but now I am doing better.
Training log:
8/6 - Pacific Ocean swim
8/7 - too much travel, day off
8/8 - 3,100 yard swim and 7 mile run with half mile repeats

8/16 - 7 mile run downtown
8/17 - thunder/lightning in the morning and driving to LOU in the afternoon...off day
8/18 - 116 mile ride on the IMLOU course and 2 mile run
8/19 - 20 mile run - afternoon, solo, 3:1 run/walk
8/20 - 1,776 yard open water swim
